Cost Accountant
Overview
We are seeking a detail‑oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team. This role supports the organization by analyzing cost data, maintaining accurate product costing, and contributing to financial reporting and operational decision‑making. The Cost Accountant will work under the direction of the Controller and cross‑functional teams to ensure cost accuracy, strengthen inventory controls, and support continuous improvement across financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Analysis & Reporting
Gather, review, and interpret cost data related to operations, materials, labor, and overhead.
Develop and maintain overhead rates and absorption methodologies.
Estimate and analyze costs for new and existing products to support pricing and profitability decisions.
Review item costs and ensure accuracy within the cost system.
Analyze manufacturing variances and provide insights to operations and finance leadership.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process efficiency.
Inventory & Compliance
Participate in physical inventory counts and monitor inventory accuracy within the system.
Support efforts to reduce obsolete inventory and excess materials.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
Assist with general ledger activities and account reconciliations.
Review reconciliations prepared by others to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Financial Support & Coordination
Assist with intercompany balancing, variance explanations, and monthly reporting requirements.
Support indirect tax filings (sales and use tax) and related research.
Contribute to documentation and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
Assist with consolidation activities and reporting through financial systems.
Participate in annual audit preparation and tax support activities.
Analysis, Projects & Continuous Improvement
Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to support decision‑making.
Maintain data consistency across financial systems and support system enhancements.
Contribute to the development of dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools.
Support team development and cross‑functional collaboration.
Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement and problem‑solving initiatives.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in cost accounting or a related accounting role.
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a focus on cost accounting.
Strong analytical skills with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and risk analysis.
Proficiency in account reconciliation and financial analysis.
High level of integrity and ability to manage confidential information.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Self‑motivated, adaptable, and results‑driven.
Strong communication skills across verbal, written, and electronic formats.
Experience with MRP/ERP systems; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics or similar platforms preferred.
Solid computer skills, including proficiency with accounting software and Excel.
Pay Range: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
